The engagement ring that you have now decided to purchase will hold special importance. More than just  nice piece of jewelry to wear it will symbolize the love you share with each other.
Don’t be in a rush to buy an engagement ring otherwise you will end up in buying unsuitable ring for her. Remember your soon-to-be bride will love, cherish and wear it for lifetime.

Here are a few tips to purchasing the correct ring.

Picking the right ring

Find out what style and type of engagement ring your fiance like. This is really important because every woman has different taste. If you are unsure there is a really simple solution. Just ask her! With the proper timing and planning of your proposal she will still be overjoyed and the surprise will not be ruined by asking her well in advance.

What to spend
You should have a clear cut budget for this purchase. This will allow you to focus only on the rings the fit in your price range and streamline the process.

Choosing where to purchase your ring
There are many online stores to chose from today. However I would start at a local jewelry store. This is always a great place to start. It allows you to see first hand the shapes, settings and sizes. Armed with this research you can now move to buying online with more confidence.

Diamond Grading Report

March 14th, 2011 § Comments Off § permalink

In 1955 the diamond industry was introduced to the Diamond Grading Report development by GIA. This grading report is based on the 4Cs of the International Diamond Grading System. This grading report assists  buyers by allowing them to compare “apples to apples” when purchasing diamonds as well as most high-end  stones from online retailers and your local dealers.

Since 1955 there are multiple 3rd party reporting labs that generate grading reports. So be sure when comparing diamonds between retailers or even with in the same store that the report is from the same laboratory. Remember each lab has their own internal grading formula, testing and review process. If possible do not compare a Diamond Report from GIA to one from IGI they may be similar but are not at all the same.

These are the criteria jewelers use when grading diamonds, and they’re the ones you’ll need to understand to buy the right diamond for you.

The 4 C’s are broken down in to the following grades and categories:

Cut – The brilliance of a diamond depends heavily on its cut.

Color - Colorless diamonds are the most desirable since they allow the most refraction of light (sparkle).

Clarity – All diamonds contain some level of internal flaws inherited during it’s formation process. The number and size of these flaws makes up its clarity.

Carat Weight - A carat is the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured.
